Does anyone know of good grad programs in Digital Arts? It seems they're mainly on the West Coast.
I know UC Santa Cruz is offering an MFA in Digital Arts/New Media, what are some other ones?

Re: Graduate programs in digital arts
Wed, March 24, 2004 - 8:36 AMSF State is strong, so is CADRE at San Jose State. SF State's program looks more like certification, which is fine for the professional world. But to get a tenure-track teaching position at a university, you'll need a terminal masters degree. -

Thu, March 25, 2004 - 7:44 AMChicago's Institute of Design has a pretty cool program, it's a lot less technical. I believe you wouldbe getting a master in design, concentrated in interactive communication design. -

Re: Graduate programs in digital arts
Sun, August 15, 2004 - 12:23 PMI just graduated from RIT with a B.S. in New Media Information Technology and am going back in the Fall for a Masters in Computer Graphic Design. It focuses on web design, but also deals with video/audio editing, animation, software design, and computer graphics.

Re: Graduate programs in digital arts
Mon, June 27, 2005 - 11:22 AMBasically, if you want to get well networked and want your MFA paid for, go to a University of California school. I'm serious. All the schools are well networked together, so your chance to connect with more colleagues is maximized. I got my MFA from UCSD where I studied with Lev Manovich and other heavyweights in the field and now am well connected to many of the majors in the field at different UCs because of this.
The UCSC program is great. Sharon Daniel is great there. Also, I would highly recommend the MAT program at UCSB. Berkeley's program is growing right now.
These programs are well funded as well unlike other private and more exclusive schools.
Ok, I'm teaching at <a href="SFAI</a>," title="www.sfai.edu/">SFAI</a>,">www.sfai.edu/">SFAI</a>, so you should take courses there as well ;) Email me privately to discuss more specifics...

Wed, July 12, 2006 - 11:50 PMI know you posted this 4 months - but - Did you decide what school to apply to?
I'm starting my masters this Fall at The School of Interactive Arts and Technology (SIAT), Simon Fraser University in Canada . www.siat.sfu.ca/welcome
They have great labs, but not sure about the instructors.

Re: Graduate programs in digital arts
Fri, August 11, 2006 - 8:49 AMI just wanted to make a small correction, the UCSC programs website is danm.ucsc.edu. The program covers Digital Art and "New" Media (my quotes). It looks like you already chose Columbia, which should be a wonderful experience, but if anyone else is reading this and interested, check it out. I'm part of the program and I've had a great experience.
